The Volunteer Referral Center (VRC) is a service organization that serves both the needs of not-for-profit agencies and volunteers. As a matchmaker VRC matches volunteers with non-profit agencies in NYC that need them.

VRC has a unique approach. Since our volunteers participate in a free one-on-one interview with one of our counselors we have a perfect picture of their interests and skills. This way we can make sure that the needs of your agency and the volunteer match. VRC maintains a database with the volunteer needs of all our agencies.

In 2007 we conducted nearly 1,000 interviews and made approximately 2,500 referrals to over 250 New York non-profit agencies. We are working steadily to increase the number of interviews, referrals and agencies.

THE ADVANTAGES OF USING VRC
Some reasons why it makes sense to sign up with VRC:

• VRC sends pre-selected volunteers: since our counselors spend personal time with the volunteer, they better understand their needs and capabilities. A referral made by us means a volunteer more likely to fit in, be happy, stay with you, and succeed.
• We prepare volunteers: during the interview we discuss your agency and the type of volunteer job you offer. VRC volunteers arrive ‘one step ahead’ since they are committed and have a better understanding of your mission and services.
• Low fee won’t stress your budget: VRC requests only a nominal one-time registration fee from new agencies, far less than placing even one classified advertsiement.
• A new source of volunteers: we might get many volunteers in our office that never have heard of your organization before. If they are a fit to your agency we will make sure they get to know you.
• Our volunteers made the first step: by contacting VRC for an appointment and coming to our office for an interview, our volunteers already showed commitment to volunteering. They made the first step, and are likely to make the next step too.
